BHS Final Exam

BHS Final Exam

To all BHS members,
To all participants of the BHS postgraduate course

Dear colleague, dear participant,

The Belgian Hematology Society (BHS) has organized a postgraduate course in 2012-2014.

There have been 13 seminars covering all major topics in hematology, the last seminar is programmed on May 24th 2014.

As announced previously, the BHS will organize an ANNUAL exam.

Time and place

The exam will take place on June 21, 2014, from 9:30 till 12:00 at the Hof ter Musschen, Avenue Emmanuel Mounierlaan 2, 1200 Woluwe-St-Lambert/Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe (see attached file for directions).

Who can attend ?

Every trainee or specialist who has attended the 2012-2014 course is allowed to take the exam. At registration the candidate has to choose to be registered either as a biologist or as clinician hematologist.  Registration via the BHS website is mandatory. There is no fee to pay.

General principles

The exam will cover all 13 seminars of the 2012-2014 cycle.

The examination will consist in a multiple choice questionnaire based on questions provided by each speaker of the BHS course.

The exam copies will be read optically by the Smart center at the University of Liège.

Each correct answer will get a + 1 mark, each wrong answer will get a 0. There will be no negative marks.

To succeed, participants should give correct answers to at least 60% of the questions and have to attend at least at 8 of the 13 seminars.

Format of questions

Each question will have an introductory sentence followed by 3-5 proposals; answers will be of one of the following 3 types:

(A) only 1 item is correct (answers 1-2-3-4-5);

(B) none of the items is correct (answer 6);

(C) all items are correct (answer 7).

BHS examination committee

A BHS examination committee chaired by the president of the BHS has been established. Other members of the committee are the councilors for educational affairs (Dr. E Willems an N. Meuleman) + 2 other BHS board members (Drs. M. André and T. Kerre). The committee will take care of the practical organization and supervision of the exam. The committee will prepare a random, balanced selection of multiple choice questions. There will be 1 question per topic i.e. 72 questions in total (12 seminar x 6 topics each).

There will be a different weighting of exam questions between biologist and clinician hematologists.

The committee will also examine the global analysis of the results of the exam as provided by the Smart center, to identify possible problems before releasing the final results.

Certificate

If the participant has passed the examination, he/she will receive a certificate provided that he/she has attended 8 out of the 13 seminars during the 2012-2014 course. If this was not the case, it will be allowed to catch up with one or two seminars to a total of 8, during the 2014-2016 course, so to eventually obtain the certificate.

Manama Clinical Hematology

The exam and the certificate are not an obligation to obtain the competence of Clinical Hematology unless required as such by the Stagemeester/Maître de stage responsible for your specialisation.
