In Memoriam: Dr. Pieter Van Vlierberghe receives the David Grimwade Award

The Belgian Hematology Society would like to join the European Hematology Association (EHA) in celebrating the life and achievements of our late colleague Pieter Van Vlierberghe whose commitment and contribution to research has been awarded posthumously with the David Grimwade Award during the EHA2023 Congress which has been held on June 8-15, 2023 in Frankfurt.

Established in 2017, the David Grimwade Award aims to honor  leading and active basic and translational researchers in the field of hematology.

This year EHA decided to recognise and honor the invaluable scientific contribution of our colleague Dr. Pieter Van Vlierberghe,  whose profound and devoted dedication to the study of genetics of T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) led to the identification of PHF6 as one of the most frequently mutated genes in T-ALL and to the recognition of new targets for therapy in ALL and repurposing of existing drugs for the treatment of ALL, with validation in patient-derived xenograft models.

The BHS would like to take this moment to celebrate his inestimable contribution to research and life.
